A substantial crusty white bread, baked freeform. This is an impressive addition to any dinner table or summer picnic. Serve alongside soup,  sliced up with meat or veggie dips or simply smeared with butter. We just love the shape! Legend has it that the shape originated in Britain during the Roman occupation, when ovens were rather tall and shaped like beehives. To stack one loaf on top of another made maximum use of oven space, a necessity when the ovens were communal and had to accommodate all the bakers in the village.
